VJ Zoe Mei for Kpop-TV

Spent the weekend veejaying for KPOP-TV. You can read all about it on my kdrama blog KoreanDaydreamer. Was impressed by the work ethic of all the bands that performed. Korean celebrities have the craziest schedules, considering that they’re often flying all over Asia to promote their albums. And most Kpop singers are also actors, which means they’re subject to grueling kdrama shoot schedules. Apparently it’s standard to shoot for 15-18 hours a day when you’re on a kdrama production. Crew and talent will literally sleep in their cars and get back on set. Not the safest way to film (and it has led to several car accidents where talent gets injured) but props to them all for their strong commitment to spreading the Korean wave.

yes, and …

I really love the improv scene in LA. In what other city can you find at least five solid improv shows going on at any day of the week? Been working the indie scene with my two indie teams.

hey, what’s up with you?

Had a great time at LAIFF with my indie team Always on Top. Performing improv again tonight at McCabe’s, yep the bar and grill in Santa Monica. I’ve been warned to beware of drunk hecklers, but having done my share of sketch comedy in the Castro neighborhood of SF, I think I’ll be okay. I still remember back in the day performing on what was literally a plank stage in front of a bar that was perpendicular to us, so that the audience was facing AWAY from the show. Just another challenge to do solid scenes and stay true to the comedy!

Oh yeah, and just shot a sketch with some felines. Stay tuned!

The Purgation – Coming soon in 2014

When I moved to Los Angeles, my original goal was to direct my own film.

And, now, finally, after years of prep work, I’m almost there! I’ve finished a script – a screenplay I spent a year developing with a writing’s group. The story is a psychological horror with elements of Japanese and Korean horror films like The Ring and Old Boy.

I’ve assembled a team of professional crew members that I’ve previously worked with on set, and therefore trust that they’ll always have my back. And I have a creepy asylum location that I’m excited to start dressing with blood. But, I need to raise the bare minimum needed to make sure this independent project can meet studio standards.

So, in addition to applying to grants, I’ve started an Indiegogo campaign:

Ihttp://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-purgation

Please donate if you believe in the power of independent cinema. If you value seeing a diverse cast onscreen. If you value getting more women BEHIND the camera and in charge of the stories that we see.

Every dollar helps make sure we can have a safe and professional environment to work in. The bulk of the money we raise will go towards location rental fees, legal fees, and insurance because almost everyone working on this project is donating their time and talents for the love of film, for the chance to make a movie with strong female characters and a compelling horror story that doesn’t exploit women.

Even if you can’t donate at this time, just spreading the word and sharing the link is much appreciated, because getting exposure is key to reaching our fundraising goal.

Thank you.  Better together.

Happy Diwali!

Worked on a performance piece for a private house party to celebrate Diwali. Will be taking this show to schools soon for teachers who want to teach their students about the Hindu “festival of lights.”

Takeaways – dancing while wearing a mask is hard, people with money take their parties seriously, and children are the best audience.

626 Night Market

I really wish we had an Asian night market on the Westside!!! Really craving some boba right now. Here’s a video I worked on for 626 Night Market. Shot on location. [Find me at 2:05.]
Was super excited to be able to work with the talented Ellen Kim, a dance choreographer who’s worked with several K-pop stars, including my current crush, Kim Hyun-Joong.
